Thanks for taking the time to view this page. In some ways, this book is a glimpse into my life's story. It celebrates my continuing journey and ongoing development as a public speaker, but it is more a story about my process than it is about my arrival. There are literally thousands of books on public speaking, so why is this one worthy of your time? Like most people, public speaking did not come easy for me. Once upon a time, the very thought of talking in public would make me apprehensive and a bit sweaty. Nevertheless, public speaking is kind of like death and taxes; there is no way around it. Books are plentiful that focus on preparing presentations and delivering them with skill and style. This book, which is directed to active and aspiring speakers, teaches one how to build a purpose-centered presentation from start to finish. My goal here is to offer the reader a proven systematic approach designed to help new and experienced speakers develop and deliver purposeful talks that produce
a desired outcome. This purpose-centered approach gives speakers an upfront goal that helps them align all components of the talk so that they achieve a predetermined result.
In a busy world, sometimes we need a thumbnail sketch of a subject, one that shows us a view of the big picture albeit in a small and condensed way. Thus this book is designed to be more of an overview than a treatise on public speaking. I found Dr. Rodriguez's book, Purpose Driven Public Speaking, a superb `how to' guide to public speaking. The book had interesting real life examples and very practical tips. It held my interest. It's not your typical business book. It takes the mystery out of how to prepare and deliver a compelling speech with a purpose. It is applicable to casual speeches like at family gathering or more formal speeches at work. I highly recomend it!

Purpose-Centered Public Speaking - WHY WAS THIS BOOK WRITTEN?
The author begins by explaining that the book is a glimpse into his life's story, celebrating his "continuing journey and ongoing development as a public speaker." The aim of the book appears to be two-fold:
1. To empower readers to improve their ability to speak in public.
2. To show a "simple, purposeful and systematic approach to public speaking."
Even though he has been involved in public speaking for nearly four decades, the author says his growth as a speaker is continually developing. To hear that even an experienced speaker is an eternal student of public speaking makes you realise just what an art this is.

Great tool for those in the arena of public speaking

Dr. Rodriguez's book is refreshing and very insightful. As somebody that is in front of an audience on a weekly basis (I am a minister), I find that this book is a great tool and it will help me refine my speaking abilities. I really liked chapter 5 in particular. This chapter impressed me so much that I am seriously considering switching techniques. I have used a certain technique for the past 8 years but after reading this chapter I was moved to consider something that makes more sense. The book is challenging (in a good way) since it foments you moving from what you are used to doing to doing what improves your ROI. I have suggested this book to a bunch of my friends with the same profession I have and I will continue to do so.
