Easy to Make Quiet Book

Quiet Books have always intimidated me but after looking through this book I realized how do-able they can be. Amy has made these quiet book patterns user-friendly for anyone to be able to do.
I also love the unique page ideas throughout her patterns. It seems most quiet books all include the same basic activities but she has come up with some fresh new ideas that I know my little boy will love.
I found new motivation for making a quiet book after looking at her book. I can't wait to get started!

I bought this book to create a quiet book for my little one for Christmas. I was very happy with book i made am happy that I had so much help making it. My daughter is very happy with her little book. My kids 3-8 all love the book.

I love the designs

I love the designs, but had never done anything like this and wanted detailed instructions. I'm more of a logical, orderly thinker... step-by-step and thorough. The instructions on this seemed more scattered with several details missing. This left me to research and figure out on my own the things that weren't written. I now feel like I could write this more to people like me who need the specifics such as page size (7" by 8.5" each page), specific type of fusible webbing (wonder under 725), what kind of pellon peltex (70), When to use stiff felt as opposed to regular felt (I still haven't figured this out... she said she used stiffened felt on 80% of her things, but when was it better to use soft felt?). Also, stiffened felt didn't seem to exist anywhere except Amazon through China until I found it on Walmart.com's site. Even Joann Fabric only had soft felt. Anyway, I love the patterns, the templates on the CD are awesome, and it gave me what I needed once I put in the additional research, but the writing could definitely be more user-friendly and organized for beginners like me.

This 1965 book, a first edition, is a "must-have" classic for all those interested in negotiation. The contemporary sounding sub-title says it all: An Analysis of a Social Interaction System. I purchased my copy because I am writing an article about Mary Parker Follett. For 50 years, Walton and McKersie have consistently recognized her "pioneering and impressionistic concept of integrative bargaining." Over the years, they have helped keep interest in Follett alive. While Follett is most-often thought of in connection to businessmen, she was close with the field of labor as well. She was a member of the wage arbitration board in Boston, and also sat in as an observer on cases before labor arbitrators and conciliators. This book is timely today.

This book is up to date and comprehensive, but well organized and accessible enough for the non lawyer who needs to know the ins and outs of current First Amendment decisions. It's a great guide for the working journalist as well as students, and I especially appreciate the tips on what to do in certain circumstances (such as when a judge decides to close a court hearing) as well as the forms (FOIA requests and model releases, etc.). It goes into some detail, in layman's terms, but it also has handy summaries if you're looking for a quick reminder. It balances historical precedent with significant modern decisions as well as information on how certain issues (such as privacy and military tribunals) are trending...

Are the predictions real?

Just about finished with this book and really enjoyed it. Had read the one before this too. I then, out of curiosity, Googled "Harry Dent". You would not believe the number of articles on how many of his predictions have gone completely bust.
I like his writing style and his level of confidence. I also like all the data he provides. I would take this book as "one more bit of data for your knowledge base" and not as the Bible as to where to put your money.

I have read most of Dent's books and enjoyed them. This is his weakest by far. I had high hopes, but was left vey disappointed.

Dent made his name on demographics and his spending cycle, which are good tools for directionality but fail to match actual events. He tried to cover this by adding more cycles which stretches reality too far. I have a real problem with his supposed geopolitical cycle and his argument in the book is very poorly done. He has multiple pages of current negative events, but blows off the period of 1983 to 2000 by saying nothing bad happened; ignoring Beirut, Chernobyl, Columbine, Iraq invasion, Tinammen Square, etc. His innovation cycle is supported by some slight of hand that just shows the weakness of the basic argument. All he seems to have left is the sun spot cycle, with such a large time variation to negate its value and no real reason for it to have any effect. His long term cycles are even less credible.

A recession is likely coming, but this book doesn't really present anything new for discussion. I expected so much more.

A bombshell of a book !

This book was a big eye opener ! If Harry Dent a Harvard grad in economics, is correct, the world is about to see the biggest bubble burst in history ! Do you want to bet against it ? Go ahead I dare you. Harry carefully crafted his book of cycles to make predictions about the stock markets around the world. After a 7 year bullish cycle how much longer can the bull market go on ? If he is correct, its time to prepare for major catastrophic events about to take place. Even if a bubble does not burst like he says it will, it won't hurt you to put your money in a safe place while riding out these times. His explanations are written so that anyone can understand what he is saying and why he is saying it. I enjoyed reading his book and give it 5 stars.

About the Author

Andrew Carnie is Professor of Linguistics and Faculty Director in the Graduate College at the University of Arizona. He specializes in generative syntactic theory with an emphasis on constituency, VSO languages, copular constructions and Celtic languages. He is the author of numerous other publications, including Irish Nouns (2008), Constituent Structure (2010), Formal Approaches to Celtic Linguistics (2011), Modern Syntax (2011), and Syntax: A Generative Introduction, Third Edition (2013).

Surprisingly, the origins of those images can be traced back to the roots of the islands’ tourism industry in the 1880s. As Krista A. Thompson explains, in the late nineteenth century, tourism promoters, backed by British colonial administrators, began to market Jamaica and the Bahamas as picturesque “tropical” paradises. They hired photographers and artists to create carefully crafted representations, which then circulated internationally via postcards and illustrated guides and lectures.

Illustrated with more than one hundred images, including many in color, An Eye for the Tropics is a nuanced evaluation of the aesthetics of the “tropicalizing images” and their effects on Jamaica and the Bahamas. Thompson describes how representations created to project an image to the outside world altered everyday life on the islands. Hoteliers imported tropical plants to make the islands look more like the images. Many prominent tourist-oriented spaces, including hotels and famous beaches, became off-limits to the islands’ black populations, who were encouraged to act like the disciplined, loyal colonial subjects depicted in the pictures.

Analyzing the work of specific photographers and artists who created tropical representations of Jamaica and the Bahamas between the 1880s and the 1930s, Thompson shows how their images differ from the English picturesque landscape tradition. Turning to the present, she examines how tropicalizing images are deconstructed in works by contemporary artists—including Christopher Cozier, David Bailey, and Ir�n�e Shaw—at the same time that they remain a staple of postcolonial governments’ vigorous efforts to attract tourists.
