About the Author
Ann McMan was born in the mountains of Pennsylvania, but spent much of her childhood below sea level in northern Delaware. She now lives halfway between the mountains and the sea in central North Carolina, but dreams of one day relocating to Vermont—where the colder climate might help her keep better.

A really well written Lesbian Romance with awesome dialogue

I read a lot of lesbian fiction and Jericho by Ann McMan is really high on my list that I would recommend for a really well written lesbian romance with awesome dialogue. I really enjoyed how it does not follow the typical arch of lesbian romance where girl meets girl, there is some conflict, then they fall madly in love and have mind blowing sex. This is different and has a complimentary cast of characters which for the most part really add to the entire story. What is a true standout is the dialogue. It is smart and funny with a razor sharpness that is quite creative. I do not think anyone who reads this book will be disappointed with it.

A great 1st book by the author

I really enjoyed this book, and a good bit of that was because both Syd and Maddie came across as being three dimensional characters. Syd is dealing with a failed marriage and trying to figure out what happens next in her life. As a result, she takes a temporary (18 month) job setting up a library in the rural town of Jericho. In her opinion this is the perfect opportunity to reevaluate her life. While there meets and becomes friends with the local Doctor, Maddie.
The reader gets to go along for the ride as these two develop and a strong supportive friendship. From my perspective the friendship felt "real" as if it could happen in real life.
This was a very good read; I was engaged the entire time and had a difficult time putting the book down. However, I will say near the end of the book I started to feel like the author may have gotten stuck and just started throwing things at the wall to see what would stick and progress the story forward: family issues, an outside threat, death, destruction, and foster kids. I mention it because it was enough that I actually noticed all these significant life events happening at the end when even one or two would have been more than enough. It didn't detract from the story but the thought did provide a bit of amusement for me.
The book is certainly worth reading I'll be starting her second story "Dust" next

Interesting and well developed characters populate this terrific novel

I read all of the earlier reviews and decided this book was worth a try- I was so surprised just HOW MUCH I loved this book! So much of this genre is predictable and cliche yet this story held my rapt attention (to the point of staying up until 4 am reading one night/morning).
I have to admit that I found a few of the plot devices a little too convenient, and the amazing acceptance of all family members was warm, yet slightly unbelievable but the terrific intelligent dialogue and the two smart, imperfect protagonists made this a book I will likely re-read in the future.
As soon as I finished reading this book today, I looked to see if Ms. McMan had written anything else and I was so pleased to find her second novel. Guess what I just bought?
