My favorite of the series!

I chose this rating because I am 100% satisfied with this purchase. I liked this book because I couldn't put it down!! I sucked into the plot and found myself thinking of the characters and story line even when I wasn't actively reading. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a good love story, but is tired of how over sexualized the romance genre has become. Splintered Oak is christian fiction, but it's not preachy. If you are a Christ follower is will speak deeply to your heart, and if you are not, you will will enjoy this story none the less. Excellent read, I highly recommend it!

A suck-you-in-story that is well worth your time!

Never before have I read a piece of fiction that is so vivid and honest. The characters could be my friends, I felt so in tune with their feelings. Their struggles are not uncommon, but are expressed in such a way that invites deeper understanding of the demons they face. Thank you, Ms. Gray, for not sugar coating reality, and for leaving your readers feeling encouraged and full of hope about a loving God.

Awesome Ending to the Winsor Series!!!

I loved Splintered Oak!! It tells all of the tidbits that have helped Jake's life spin out of control and how he had to hit bottom to come out of his self-destructive lifestyle. Naomi set an amazing example for young Christian women today by showing that Christians aren't perfect and can live for Christ in today's society. The Godly family DOES still exist and I am glad it was depicted in the storyline and not just assumed to be there. I recommend to mothers of young women and it is a good read for the moms as well.

Add on: I have just finished Splintered Oak for the second time and missed a few things the first time. Once Jake let God take control of his life he went back and mended relationships from his past. That is so hard to do, yet he did it humbly. Naomi stood true to her beliefs reguarding her boundaries of intimacy with a guy before marriage and I was so proud of her! Don't want to give the book away, and I still reccomend it!

About the Author
Rebecca Jaycox grew up in the tiny town of Berryman, which borders the Mark Twain National Forest and the Courtois River about 70 miles south of St. Louis. The beautiful landscape fed her imagination, and she began writing stories at age 10 and never stopped. Always seeking adventure, Rebecca moved to France after she graduated college with a journalism degree to teach English at a French high school. Bitten by the travel bug, she has recently visited Italy, Greece, Austria, Spain, and finally made it to her bucket-list destination of Istanbul last summer. Rebecca now lives in New York City with her husband, Gregory. She enjoys reading and writing fantasy, urban fantasy, steampunk, and science fiction. The Other Inheritance is her first novel.

Definitely one of the better YA Female protagonists I've read

I am always a sucker for stories with alternate worlds and mysterious heroes, but it wasn't Asher who caught my attention in this story, it was Reggie.

Without giving too much away, the book throws us right into the deep end with a conversation between the two characters. Reggie has a power and Asher knows about it, and Reggie doesn't really know who this guy is. And neither do we. By the end everyone had believable motivations and were mostly likable, but the journey for Reggie being someone who just wants to know what's going on to someone comfortable with herself is very well done. My favorite aspect of her characters though, what I found most endearing, was her level of trust in the people around her. I personally wouldn't have trusted any of these people, and I certainly wouldn't have been down to explore exciting new opportunities with a weird biker guy who doesn't even introduce himself at first. But for Reggie, all of her decisions make sense given her character, and I enjoyed seeing where she went with it.

The ending is a bit of cliffhanger but given that the second book is already available this isn't something to worry about.

I enjoyed reading this book.

I enjoyed reading this. I'm not a fan of series books but will read a trilogy, and I am looking forward to the next book. The book moved pretty fast. Lots of action, I thought the story brought the characters together in a interesting way. A new world, elfs, changelings, mages good and bad. The relationship between Reggie and Asher developed pretty fast I knew they would end up together but not as fast as it did. I did liked the story and hope the next book moves them forward.

I generally do not read this genre of books, but found this one fascinating. Rebecca Jaycox writes the characters well and helps us understand the agonizing pain that Reggie, a confused teenager with an alcoholic mother, a dead father and a sudden realization that there is more to her own story than she realizes, is dealing with. The story takes the reader on one adventure after another and I felt like I was in nearly every type of scenario from The Wizard of Oz to Harry Potter to Star Wars to Indiana Jones. I couldn't choose just one because there is such a wonderful mixture of all of them. I would have absolutely given this a five star rating but I didn't get quite the closure I was looking for. I believe that is because there will be a sequel and I look forward to reading that when it comes out. Job well done, Ms. Jaycox!

juicy research

I've been facilitating groups since 1988. This book consolidates what's taken me 20 years to learn, and taught me plenty more besides. It's organised and written in a way that's easy to follow, without every patronising the reader. In particular, the research shines out. The authors don't just make statements of opinion, they back up concepts with plenty of solid research. The research doesn't weigh the book down or get in the way of the flow - it anchors it to reality. The most clear and comprehensive you're likely to find on the subject - an excellent investment.
